A traffic stop in Huntingdon County led to the arrest of two people who were in possession of an illegal handgun.
Huntingdon County’s District Attorney said a new gun violence section unit for the Attorney General helped with the arrests.
During a traffic stop in August 2018, Huntingdon Borough Police arrested 24-year-old Tiffany Williamson on an active bench warrant.
When they searched the car she was in, they found a loaded handgun, which Williamson told police belonged to her boyfriend, 34-year-old Aaron Daniels. Daniels was not legally allowed to own a firearm due to previous convictions.
The Gun Violence Section Unit worked with the Huntingdon Borough Police to arrest and charge Williamson and Daniels for multiple firearms offenses.
“it’s just a wonderful tool that’s available, particularly to rural district attorneys and to help the police department and to help get handguns out of the hands of criminals,” Dave Smith, Huntingdon County District Attorney, said.
Smith believed this was the first arrest and case made by the Gun Violence Section Unit.
