Township earns Arbor Day honor

In honor of Arbor Day, folks from Ferguson Township put their green thumbs to the test at the Snetsinger Butterfly Garden in State College.

About 30 volunteers cleared trees and invasive species to help preserve the meadow habitat.

The garden is intended to teach visitors about pollination with butterflies and bees.

Lance King, an arborist from Ferguson Township, said it’s important to have good grounds keeping to maintain the environment.

“This garden means a lot to everybody in the community. Many folks come out and enjoy it everyday and we’re just trying to keep it that way and keep it beautiful for everybody to come out and see,” King said.

Ferguson township was also recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation.

For all their hard work, the region was deemed “Tree City USA.”
