A Clearfield County township is taking action after noise complaints against businesses in the area.

Sandy Township manager Shawn Arbaugh said a group of business owners approached the supervisors asking for this ordinance, after noise complaints for loud music over the past three months.

Those complaints were reported to the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement (BLCE).

“They received complaints, they were potentially getting penalties, and other issues, so they asked us to look at a noise ordinance,” Arbaugh said.

The Sandy Township board of supervisors are now considering a noise ordinance.

This would allow for local enforcement of any loud noise instead of having to call the BLCE.

“It covers other things than just licensed establishments,” Arbaugh said. “It covers loud cars, or people walking around with a boombox, or something like that, we can enforce those regulations if it’s louder than it should be.“

Neighbors around these businesses said the noise has never been an issue and are unsure where these complaints come from.

The proposed ordinance is expected to be on the agenda at the supervisors’ meeting on April 15.
