Dozens of people came out to Delgrosso’s Amusement Park to support children with all different types backgrounds and health needs.
When Wayne Boone was 12 years old, his family and friends started to see a change in his behavior.
“(We) noticed that some eating habits weren’t so well. He was complaining of some breathing issues, things like that. I noticed a major weight gain,” Boone’s mother Amanda Young said.
Weighing about 200 pounds at such a young age, Young was worried that there could be health problems later down the road.
“I thought we were really gonna end up into some health issues, having to spend a lot of time in a hospital, doctors, all that,” she said.
Boone’s mother took him and her concerns to Geisinger Health, where doctors put him on the “Weigh of Life” program, which requires Boone to watch his diet.
“I cut out the starch, the grains. I calculated how many calories of food I ate per day,” Boone said.
While enjoying the day at Delgrosso’s, Boone still has to watch exactly what he eats to make sure there is no relapse.
Boone credits his doctors at Geisinger with helping him fix his health issues.
“They really helped me out and they showed that they care. Most doctors that I visit don’t do that,” Boone said
Wayne still sees his doctors, but for now is just enjoying being a kid.
Over $900,000 were raised Sunday.
