Three brothers from Jefferson County are spreading Christmas cheer to wounded soldiers.
Brothers Lincoln, Lawson and Logan Girt collected Christmas cards at schools and different sites around Jefferson and Forest Counties.
They said the project was inspired by the new veterans memorial put outside Furlong Funeral Home in Summerville.
“We thought we should give back to the veterans for all that they did for us,” Lawson said.
In all, they collected more than 2,000 cards.
“We really owe a lot to them and the fact that there’s so many, and the fact that there’s so many that care for them as well is really exciting,” Logan said.
All the cards are being boxed up and sent to Walter Reed National Medical Center in Maryland.
The funeral home will cover the cost of shipping the cards.
Next year, the boys plan to collect even more cards and take a trip to the hospital to deliver the cards personally.
