If you’re looking for something to satisfy your sweet tooth, there’s a new shop in downtown Altoona.
The Bakery, yes, that’s its name, recently opened its doors.
The family-run shop sells sweets like sticky buns, cheesecakes, and breakfast sandwiches made on fresh bagels.
Owner Kurt Drost says there’s one item folks are always coming in for.
“Coconut cream pie is kinda like the signature thing here. Everybody comes in for coconut cream pie because it’s a big seller, but everything is going real well,” Drost said.
The Bakery also offers vegan and gluten free options for folks with restrictive diets.
Drost added that he’s excited that the businesses in downtown Altoona are supportive of each other.
“It’s really great to be a part of what seems to be the comeback of downtown Altoona, and we’re supporting all of the other businesses that are already open or are getting ready to open, and we’re excited for them and we’re excited to be a part of it,” Drost said.
