In Sykesville, a special dedication was made during their annual Memorial Day service.

Today, town officials, state representatives and the local Legion dedicated the new town square.

The square is on the corner of Route 119 and North Park Street next to the post office.

The focal point is three memorial walls with more than 350 names engraved and more need to be added.

“By remembering them, you keep them alive forever. That is what we are into here. We want to keep the memory of all the veterans, all the people who gave the ultimate sacrifice we want to keep them alive in our community and i think that’s what this wall will do,” says Keith Nicolaus, Commander of the Sykesville American Legion.

The project took about three years to complete- and the  town says it was funded almost completely from donations.
