Investigators identified the man whose body was found in an alley in Johnstown as A’Von Perry.

The 20-year-old Johnstown resident was found just after 1pm on Tuesday afternoon in the brush near an alley off of Cooper Avenue in the Coopersdale neighborhood.

Cambria County Coroner Jeff Less says Perry died from a gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide.

This is the second homicide in Cambria County in 2018.

“Investigators are still combing the neighborhood for any type of video surveillance that may be available to them,” said Johnstown Police Chief Robert Johnson.

Police couldn’t say how long Perry’s body may have been there or if they found any shell-casings nearby.

9-1-1 dispatch officials don’t have any reports of gunshots fired in that area in the hours or even days before Perry’s body was found.

Police said the motive is unclear, but Perry’s death may be linked to another unsolved murder. Investigators could not give any more details.

“We believe there may be past history between this young victim who passed away and another one of the unsolved cases: a victim in that case,” said Cambria County District Attorney Kelly Callihan.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

“From the last week, the last month, anything that you know about him would be beneficial for the police to know at this point,” Callihan said.
