In Happy Valley, the drinking holiday known as State Patty’s Day officially started Saturday morning.
The streets were filled with young people celebrating State Patty’s Day, but they were also filled with a good number of people keeping an eye on the celebration.
Borough and University Police joined forces with the state police and the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to maintain a strong law enforcement presence throughout the weekend.
That didn’t seem to bother those who were there to party.
“Hey, it’s Saint Patrick’s Day, almost. State Patty’s Day happens once a year. I come down to visit, have a good time and hit the bars, it’s all fun,” said Tyler Madeira, a State Patty’s Day participant visiting from a college in eastern Pa.
State college police said Saturday afternoon that no extremely serious incidents have occurred, but they’re not prepared to say, yet, how the behavior at this year’s event compares with previous State Patty’s Days.
Activities are expected to continue through Saturday night into Sunday morning.
