Nicole Abrino continues to recover physically and emotionally from the injuries she suffered during the January shooting at P.J Harrigan’s in State College.

The 21 year old is now home, but doctors say she will suffer the effects of the shooting for the rest of her life.

Abrino says she’s had no less than 10 surgeries and procedures so far.

A bullet is lodged in her spine, but doctors do not think that they can safely remove it.

Abrino uses crutches and a leg brace to walk, and she cannot stand or walk for long periods of time.

“She’s honest. She’s forthright. She’s comfortable speaking about it. She’s looking forward, and she’ll tell you about how hard it is to deal with the physical issues that she’s dealing with,” Centre County District Attorney Bernie Cantorna said.

Abrino wants to extend her thanks to everyone who reached out to her.

Friends and family set up a GoFundMe page to help with her medical expenses.

“None of the victims of this crime deserved what occurred. They didn’t do anything to provoke anything and, in Miss. Abrino’s case, she was actually making sure somebody got home safe and stepped in, not thinking anything like this would occur, and actually put herself in harms way,” Cantorna said.
