To honor the 58,220 Americans killed in the Vietnam war, hundreds of motorcyclists escorted the traveling wall that heals into Centre county Wednesday night.
The WPSU event, called “A Time to Heal,” brought the wall for display at 100 Innovation Park, near the Penn Stater Hotel. The wall showing the names and dates of Americans who were killed opens at noon Thursday and will remain open 24 hours a day through the weekend.
“The reason that I think that were all here is to welcome our brothers and sisters home,” said Keith Houtz, a navy veteran.
“The ones that really never got a good welcome home, but really deserve it. They are too often forgotten,” said Chris Litchard, a Marine Corps Ret.
The main ceremony for the “A Time to Heal” program with Penn State president Eric Barron and former navy seal captain Ryan Mccombie is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday night. Then school programs, musical performances and public availability continues until 3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
