Spanier learns fate

More than two months after he was found guilty of  endangering the welfare of children in connection with the Jerry Sandusky case, former Penn State President Graham Spanier will be sentenced, Friday. He won’t be alone though, former PSU officials Tim Curley and Gary Schultz will also learn their fates.

Back in March a jury found Spanier guilty of one charge of endangering the welfare of children, after not reporting former Penn State Assistant Football Coach Jerry Sandusky for child sexual abuse in 2001.

Spanier was charged with a misdemeanor offense instead of a felony because no behavior over time was found.

Deputy Attorney General Laura Ditka considered the ruling a victory, holding Spanier accountable for his actions.

The jury found Spanier not guilty on two other counts, including conspiracy.

On March 13th, both former Penn State Athletic Director Tim Curley and Senior Vice President Gary Schultz pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child endangerment charges. Both testified in the Spanier trial.

In Dauphin County Friday, Spanier faces a maximum of 5 years in prison and a $10,000  fine.
