A Somerset County commissioner has stepped down from his position.

Commissioenr James T. Yoder submitted his resignation Tuesday. Wednesday, he started his new role as the administrator for the Area Agency on Aging of Somerset County.

Yoder has served as a political figure for the past 14 years, of which he spent more than two years as the commissioner. Previously, he worked as the Lincoln Township supervisor.

Yoder said working in politics is a 24-7 job, so he wanted a career change to spend time with his family and his new foster daughter, whom he plans to adopt.

“It’s a great agency. Great staff. Great people here. But, I think I will have my weekends and my holidays free now to spend with my family,” Yoder said.

The county’s president judge will appoint an interim commissioner until the election next year.
