This is the 46th year that the Shuster name has been seen on an office door at the nation’s capital, and as it was announced Tuesday afternoon, it will be the final one.

Congressman Bill Shuster says decision to end his time in Congress was based on his role as chairman of the transportation and infrastructure committee.

He says with this being the final year in that role due to term limits, he wanted to be able to focus all of his time on working on President Trump’s infrastructure bill.

He believes his time is best spent in his final year working to improve roads in bridges across the country,

When asked about if the political landscape for a re-election run played a role in his decision, he says that a re-election run looked promising according to the polls he’s seen.

Shuster explained, “The political landscape for me is excellent. My poll numbers were fantastic. I’m on board with President Trump who is highly popular in the district. I’m sure he would have come into the district to help me if I would have run for re-election if I needed him. But no, that had nothing to do with it.”
