Representative Rich Irvin (R-81st legislative district) announced  Monday the approval of an $850,000 grant for a solar energy project in Huntingdon Borough, awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority under its Alternative Energy Investment Act.

“I was happy to learn that Westminster Woods Solar LLC was applying for this grant, which will use renewable energy to serve the energy needs of the Westminster Woods senior living community,” said Irvin. “This is a great example of how businesses can make use of available renewable energy resources in order to lower their utility bills.”

The grant was awarded to Westminster Woods Solar LLC, which plans to use a 4-acre parcel of land next to the senior living community to generate solar power to be used by the Westminster Woods community.

The grant money will be used for engineering and the purchase and installation of a solar photovoltaic system.
