DUBOIS, Pa. (WTAJ)– DuBois city council is considering an ordinance that could change rules in the city park.
Robert Scyk Sr. bikes through DuBois City Memorial Park three or four times a week.
“It’s good exercise, and it’s nice to meet people and there’s all kinds of people on the walkway,” Scyk said.
Scyk’s routine could change under a new ordinance proposed by council.
Currently the ordinance is written that bikes would be prohibited from walkways, parking lots, and other specified places.
Skateboards, roller skates, hoverboards and Segways would only be allowed in designated areas.
Some folks don’t like the fact the ordinance mentions banning dogs from all places in the park except the walkway and dog park.
“I feel like people should be able to do whatever they want as long as they’re not hurting anybody,” Chris Lindmar said. “If their dog’s on a leash, I don’t see the problem.”
City council member Edward Walsh said this ordinance isn’t set in stone.
Walsh said council will be modifying it to outline where dogs and bikes can and cannot be.
He said the final ordinance will not look like what was first presented to council last week.
Scyk said he can see why council may want new restrictions in place.
“It sounds reasonable because of the pedestrians, but people like riding their bike too,” Scyk said. “People don’t look out for other people on bikes, that’s probably the problem.”
Council will discuss the ordinance in their work session Thursday night.
There will be a public hearing next Monday at 7 p.m. Anyone is welcome to comment on the ordinance at that time.
