Rock Run Recreation Area in Patton wants to add amenities and improve the site, but they’ve hit a bit of a roadblock.
Rock Run opened in 2006 and has 140 trails for ATVs, dirt bikes and other motor vehicles. The site also has around 400 campsites.
Now, they want to build a shower house, add 37 electric campsites and a waste tank. However, Rock Run and the Department of Environmental Protection can’t agree on the size of the tank.
The project will cost around $800,000. Rock Run has the money, but must come to an agreement with DEP and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources before they can put out a bid for construction. Rock Run workers said they want to come to an agreement as soon as possible to make the improvements for people who enjoy the site.
Rock Run is a popular spot for families. The Shope family has vacationed at Rock Run for the past four years.
“It’s something to do with the family. We enjoy being out in nature. We love being outside. Everybody can enjoy it together. We only got a few years left with our boys at home, enjoy it while we can,” said Gary Shope Jr. “These guys are constantly doing trail work, making the trails nicer, wider, smoother. The addition of more campsites would be great. If we can get the shower house I’ve heard rumors of that would be really great.”
Rock Run’s 4th Annual Summer Blast takes place August 10th-13th.
