A Somerset County road that has been the site of several serious crashes will be getting some improvements.
PennDOT announced Tuesday that crews would be working to improve Route 160 in Wellersburg.
Starting Monday, they will install traffic control signs, erosion controls and begin excavation work to extend the truck pull-off area.
Work will take place during the day, so drivers should be on the lookout for traffic changes.
Overall work includes, the installation of flashing beacons on four school-bus-ahead signs, replacing and upsizing 35 mph signs, upgrading signs from the Maryland state line to White Oak Hollow Road, installing two dynamic message boards to warn truck traveling too fast to slow down, extending the truck pull-off by 325 feet at the top of the mountain, installing flashing beacons on three existing truck pull-off ahead signs, and installing a large diagrammatic sign with flashing beacons at the trick pull-off to warn truck drivers of the steep grade ahead.
The $1.2 million project should be completed by the end of October 2019.
