If you’re looking for a new way to ring in the new year, you might consider enjoying the festivities of First Night in downtown State College.

Every year, hundreds flock to downtown and the Penn State campus for the event.

Large ice sculptures will be displayed in the 100 block of South Allen Street and smaller sculptures will be located in Sidney Friedman Park, on the Municipal Building Plaza, and in front of business and churches that are sponsoring the event.

Musical performances, art workshops and a 5k resolution run will also be among the activities for families. The event is family-friendly and is alcohol-free.

Food will be available throughout the day, including kettle corn, strudels, chili dogs, or food from any of the restaurants in downtown State College.

A First Night State College button provides general admission for the activities on a first-come, first-serve basis, including indoor performances, the Penn State Ice Pavilion, and various workshops.

Buttons cost $10 and can be purchased at businesses throughout the Centre Region, Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, and at performance sites on December 31.

Admission is free for children 12 and under if they are with an adult already wearing a button. For more information on where buttons can be purchased and online options, click here.
