Retired K-9 Officer Copper passed away at 12 years old.

K-9 Copper was a well-loved officer of the St. Mary’s Police Department and served the Elk County communities and the surrounding region from 2009 to 2016. During his years of duty, K-9 Copper was crucial in helping detect illegal drugs, locating suspects or missing persons, and protecting his handler, Sgt. Mike Shaffer.

K-9 Copper represented the City of St. Mary’s Police Department by acting as an ambassador through many public outreach appearances.

Following his years of service, K-9 Copper remained a member of Sgt. Shaffer’s family, and is the brother of current K-9 Officer Nando.

The officers of the St. Mary’s Police Department offer their thanks to their capable and dedicated K-9 Officer Copper.
