You usually see women wearing the color pink more often during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. But, in recent years, more men are joining the campaign.

Real Men Wear Pink is the theme behind the effort to recruit men to fight breast cancer. This week, we caught up with two men who are proudly wearing their pink.

“The big thing is raising some awareness about breast cancer during the month of october i wear pink everyday and have gotten some fun very bright pink attire to really draw attention to breast cancer awareness,” says Dr. Joshua Siglin,  radiation oncologist, UPMC Altoona.

He’s this year’s Dr. Pink for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

Dr. Siglin says, “we unfortunately treat a lot of breast cancer and I see a lot of patients and in some way this is a nice way to kind of give back to them and let them know they’ve got my support for more than just their followup visit We’re kind of getting out there and doing  little something extra.”

Dr. Pink is also raising money to fight breast cancer. It will go toward helping local women being treated for the disease, and also those dealing with some of the aftereffects.

A young  friend of his can be known as a sort of junior Mr. Pink.

Izaac Christy was inspired to join the Real Men Wear Pink Campaign last year, after a doctor he knew died of breast cancer….

His stepmother Laura Lynn explains,”He’s a really caring loving kid he’s always been that way. He really likes to help anybody or everybody he can that he finds needs help.

She says last year, he raised $3,000 for the cause and this year, he hopes to contribute at least that much.

“I want them to cure it so that anybody who has breast cancer doesn’t have to die from it,” is the simple way that Izaac puts it.
