Ten members of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity faced a Centre County judge for their preliminary arraignment.

They’re facing multiple charges including aggravated assault, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person, who is Timothy Piazza.

The bail for eight of the fraternity members is set for $100,000, two others set at $50,000. All were told by the judge in court they cannot drink or take drugs, and they must surrender their passports.

Penn state President Eric Barron says as the case continues, changes must  be made at the university to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

“The university needs every single partner out there, every single partner out there to put the pressure that is necessary to fix this problem,” He said. “It needs to be alumni to say not in my house, and it has to be parents who say no I have heard what my child has said. My child doesn’t belong there and it needs to be to be us saying each and every time we’re serious.”

Their preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17.
