Wednesday, protesters gathered in Johnstown outside the office of U.S. Representative Keith Rothfus to defend the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

The demonstration comes after the White House administration announced they would end the DACA program. The Trump administration gave Congress a six-month window to potentially save the policy that protects undocumented immigrants that were brought into the U.S. as children.

In Johnstown, the demonstrators showed their support for DACA by carrying signs and sharing stories.

One protester taught English as a second language. She said many of her students are children of immigrants.

“This is their country. This is where they have their connections, this is where they are productive parts of our society,” said Sandra Dangler, a retired ESL teacher.

The protesters are urging Congressman Rothfus to work with other representatives to protect the children of immigrants.
