Program helps people with disabilities

Care providers in Cambria County hosted a rock painting event Wednesday. People with disabilities painted rocks to update a garden in Johnstown’s Point Park.

Alleghenies Unlimited Care Providers started the Ability Works program to give people with disabilities a chance to get out of their homes and do something fun, like art projects, cooking or outdoor activities.

“We try to get them out of the house, out of isolation, making friends. Doing educational things and social things,” said Tasha Adams, Development and Media for Alleghenies Unlimited Care Providers.

The Ability Works program wants to add more educational activities, like teaching people with disabilities how to use public transportation.

The events are hosted twice a month in Cambria, Somerset and Blair Counties. Those events are open to the public.
