Possible extenstion on PA switching photo IDs

Pennsylvania is still working on switching photo IDs to meet federal REAL ID requirements.

Wednesday, another extension was filed to the Department of Homeland Security, as the current extension expires on Oct. 10.

Without the extension, people will not be able to get into federal buildings with their current photo ID, and starting in January, Pennsylvania residents will need a passport for even domestic flights.

PennDOT’s Secretary Leslie S. Richards said that they have a plan developed to try to ease the stress of customers while entering the REAL ID program. She believes the Department of Homeland Security will appreciate progress made and grant the additional extension without any issues.

PennDOT estimates the new cards will be available by March 2019.
