SANDY TOWNSHIP, CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Sandy Township Police Department is warning Clearfield County residents of a phone scam circulating the area.

The caller demands money for a loved one who has been incarcerated, injured or involved in any other encounter with police.

Officials want to remind you that law enforcement officers will never ask for money over the phone, or in a situation like this.

Scammers like this generally prey on the elderly, who they can easily assume have a grandchild, and confuse and scare them out of large amounts of money.

Officers are also reminding you to never send any money via gift card, wire transfer or other means to anyone you are not 100 percent sure you know.
