Police: Student threatened to bring gun to dance, start shooting

The homecoming dance at Bedford High School was cut short Saturday night after a potential threat.

Officers from the Bedford Police Department said they got a report that a student who left the dance stated he would return with a gun and start shooting.

We’re told when officials arrived on scene they saw numerous students and staff evacuating the school.

After interviewing students and staff, police said they got the name of suspect who they said was not on scene. State Police were eventually able to track the suspect down and detain him.

At this time, officers are still investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bedford Police Department at 814-623-1105, attention Officer Kinsinger.

The Bedford Area School District released the following statement:

“In an effort to provide parents with the most up to date information, we want parents to know the police interviewed the student who made the alleged threat and have not found any evidence of any credible threat at this time.  The District and Police will continue to investigate this issue and any leads.  Anyone who has any creditable information should contact the Bedford Borough Police.”
