Multiple police departments in Centre County participate in the Prescription Drug Take Back Box program.

In the office lobbies you’ll find a big box to dump any prescriptions.

Police at Ferguson Township said they’ve had one in place since June of last year and so far they’ve collected 139 pounds of drugs.

Sgt. Ryan Hendrick said it’s a great way to safely dispose of unused drugs, but also a way to steer any excess prescriptions away from the streets.

Hendrick said the department has received a lot of positive feedback from the community.

“This box allows people to safely, environmentally safely remove prescription drugs that would otherwise be sitting around their house where children can get to it or someone could use it that might possibly have an addiction problem,” Hendrick said.

He added that it’s also a safe and easy way to fight drug addiction in Centre County.
