Police: Man using blue lights attempts to pull driver over

Along East College Avenue in Benner Township, police said a driver noticed an unmarked car with just blue lights on attempting to pull her over.

Spring Township police responded to the call and said that wasn’t an officer.

“Thinking that it was a police car, an emergency vehicle, she pulled off to the right of the road. Pulled off, sat in her car, started to acquire some of her belongings that she thought would be necessary for a traffic stop; and then next thing you know, the individual is banging on her window – telling her to get out of the car,” Spring Township Police Chief Michael Danneker said.

The woman didn’t stick around but described the man to police as a being heavy set, with dirty blond hair and wearing a blue uniform.

Police also want drivers to know what to do if they feel uncomfortable pulling over in a certain area.

“We always ask people, ya know. If you can’t pull over in a safe, something weird, doesn’t right…put your hazards on. And if you have to drive up the road a little bit, drive the speed limit…and try to find a place…where there’s some activity,” Danneker said.

Danneker said that this case does raise some eyebrows, but wants drivers to know something to look for when being pulled over.

“It’s concerning. Ya know, the police in Pennsylvania, we use red and blue lights and…more so if we’re going to go with a single light, it would be a red light. Not a blue,” Danneker said.

As police investigate, some residents are still concerned.

“It is kind of scary because you’re not gonna know if it is an unmarked car or ya know if it really is a cop not. So, it’s definitely a scary situation,” Spring Township Resident Amy Bennett said.

In light of what happened, spring township police are asking drivers to be more aware of their surroundings.

Spring Township police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
