Police determined that speed directly caused September 2018 crash

State College Police have concluded their investigation into a deadly September 2018 crash in Centre County.

Nailah Oliver, 19, was driving West on the Mt. Nittany Expressway on September 12, 2018, when she lost control of her car, and crossed the grassy median. She then struck a car being driven in the opposite direction by 47-year-old Robert Bloom, of Bellefonte.

Bloom’s car was forced to the right and was struck by a crane truck. Bloom was killed in the crash and his 15-year-old son, who was in the car with him, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center.

The investigation found that speed directly caused Oliver to lose control of her car, cross the median and crash into Bloom.

Oliver is facing several charges, including Homicide by Vehicle, Involuntary Manslaughter and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

She was arraigned and released on $25,000 unsecured bail. Her preliminary hearing is set for February 20, 2019.
