Police: babysitter overdoses in Huntingdon County

A scary situation in Huntingdon County after a babysitter allegedly overdosed in front of the child she was supposed to be watching.

It happened just before 1p.m. on January 31 at an apartment complex in Three Springs Borough.

“I came out to see what was going on and the next thing I know another ambulance came and state police officers came,” Michael Long, who lives next door, said.

Long has lived in the area for about 15 years. He couldn’t believe it when he heard about what happened.

“Come on she was a baby sitter,” he told us. “She was baby sitting. You need to check who you’re letting your kids with or around.”

Police said the suspect was supposed to be taking care of the 7-year-old inside, but instead was using drugs. The 28-year-old then overdosed within reach of the young child.

“The accused took the drugs and overdosed,” Trooper Jeff Petucci, from the Pennsylvania State Police, said. “Leaving the child in a very very dangerous situation and exposing that child to possible contact with that drug that was there.”

We’re told the woman was revived before police said she ran from the scene.

Meanwhile neighbors said this incident shouldn’t be a reflection of their community.

“I just want this to be a safe neighborhood like it was when we were raising our kids,” Long mentioned.

The suspect is currently in jail for outstanding warrants. Charges in this case are still pending.
