A Pennsylvania woman is behind bars accused of starving three children.
Allegheny County police said Jennifer Stout, 35, deliberately starved three children and forced them to live in deplorable conditions.
According to court documents, officials at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh said the children, ages 12, nine and two, all lost significant weight over the last few months. The two-year-old boy lost eight pounds since September.
The doctor treating the boy told police she had never observed such rapid weight loss in a two-year-old child in all her years practicing medicine.
The boy was also experiencing hair loss related to his starvation.
According to the court documents, Stout is not the mother of the three children. She told police the mother left the kids with her a few months ago.
The children’s biological grandfather was eventually able to track them down through social media to a home on Hunter Street in Wilkinsburg.
When the family visited the home, an aunt told police the kids appeared so thin and in such bad condition that she immediately took them to Children’s Hospital and that all three children were filthy and looked severely unkempt.
Stout is currently in jail. She’s charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person.
