High school students from across the state traveled to Cambria County for the 34th Annual Pennsylvania Envirothon.

More than 330 students from 64 counties will give presentations and perform field tests that focus on soil and land use, wildlife and environmental issues.

The event takes place Tuesday, May 23rd and Wednesday, May 24th at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown campus.

The hope is that these students form a lifelong passion for protecting the environment.

“Our one goal is to help make these students environmentally conscientious as they go through their lives and in the decisions that they make every day,” said Lorelle Steach, the executive director for the Pennsylvania Envirothon.

The winner of the state competition will move on to the North American competition in July.

The top five teams will also receive educational scholarships totaling around $10,000.
