Penn Highlands Clearfield and PennDOT played host to a mocktail party Tuesday to encourage safe celebrations this St. Patrick’s Day.

Attendees at the mocktail party could get behind the wheel of an impaired driving simulator, or try to solve a few puzzles with simulation goggles.

PennDOT and the hospital teamed up to make people aware of the dangers of driving under the influence, and encourage having a designated driver instead.

“It was a real eye-opener for me to see, not for myself, but even watching others going through these simulations what an impact even a little amount of alcohol makes on your perception,” Penn Highlands Clearfield chief nursing officer Deb Thomas said.

According to preliminary data from PennDOT, there were 33 alcohol-related crashes– including one fatality– on St. Patrick’s Day in 2018.
