Winter weather caused PennDOT to issue a travel advisory, lowering speed limits along I-80, I-99 and Route 322 Thursday.

PennDOT is advising drivers to slow down on the roads, and stay home if they don’t have to travel.

“Anytime we can have fewer vehicles on the roadway, obviously that enhances safety because you’ve got fewer cars and trucks out there,” PennDOT District 2 Press Officer Marla Fannin said

If you do have to head out into the storm, you should also check out 511PA first.

“It allows them to see real-time information, it also helps them plan from point A to point B,” Fannin said.

511PA also allows you to see where the plows are- which PennDOT was ready to do, sending 196 of their trucks out to clean off the roads.

As always, when the weather gets bad, Fannin is reminding drivers to be safe.

“The one thing we always want to remind people about is that in these kinds of weather conditions, they want to slow down, give themselves some time, and under all circumstances, buckle up,” Fannin said.

Lowered speed limits will be in place until further notice. They are lifted as road conditions improve.
