STATE COLLEGE, CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ)– Penn State University Health Services confirmed that two students at main campus have come down with a case of the mumps.

At this time it’s believed that the two cases are not related, But both students are being kept in isolation while PSU staff looks to see who they may have been in contact with.

This marks the third year in a row that cases of the mumps were confirmed at University Park.

A few years ago, nearly 80 PSU students had probable or confirmed cases of the disease.

Which can spread quickly at college campuses because it is highly infectious.  It can spread 2 days before any symptoms show themselves, and 5 days after the start of symptoms.

Those who experience symptoms like tender swollen glands below the ear and jawline, headache, and fever, should not hesitate to see a doctor.

For most people, two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine will provide immunity to the infection.

More than 100 cases of the mumps have been reported at Temple University this spring semester.
