With Happy Valley Jam on July 8, Penn State University officials are busy getting ready for the first ever concert at Beaver Stadium.

The stadium is usually home to Penn State’s Nittany Lion Football team, but next weekend it will take on something that’s never happened before.

“I just think it’s going to be a lot of energy and a lot of excitement around the first ever concert at Beaver Stadium. There’s only one first concert in Beaver Stadium. So I think people will come and really kind of take in the specticle of seeing a stage on the field and the lights and the sound and just enjoying beautiful Saturday at Beaver Stadium,” Deputy Director of Athletics and Chief Operating Officer Phil Esten said.

County music star Blake Shelton will headline the concert, but will share the stage Chris Young and Big and Rich.

Ticket sales from the event will be put back into the university’s student athletes.

“So any kind of resources that we can generate, we’ll reinvest in our student athletes. It goes back to help any…line of those things really, from a student-athlete development,” Esten said.

So far, tickets have been sold in over 40 different states, along with Canada and Sweden.

With thousands of people expected to fill seats, Penn State officials said public safety is priority.

“We’ve had a lot of meetings and we’ve talked extensively as far as what’s happening in the country…university police and their public safety team has kept us abreast of what’s going on in the world,” Asst. Athletic Director and General Manager of Beaver Stadium Cory Chapman said.

Chapman said the stadium’s clear bag policy and metal detector screenings will be in place that day.

They’ve also teamed up with a third party security company, but ask the public to stay vigilant and report anything suspicious.
