The Penn State DuBois baseball team secured the championship in United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Small College World Series on Thursday at Showers Field. 

The team is still in its startup years, making its return just three years ago after a 21-year hiatus due to budget cuts. Head Coach Tom Calliari says even out of the gate they were a force to be reckoned with, “they didn’t know what to expect first-year program in our conference and next thing you know we’re beating everybody. I think we took them by surprise.” 

 They were in the tournament for the past two years and selected as a six seed this year. This is the first Penn State DuBois team to take home the title. “I can tell you this team had a great team chemistry and that goes a long way,” says assistant coach Mike Nesbit. “We’ve always been very close but it was just a little bit of an extra feeling. We knew something special was going to happen,” says Dan Bowman. 

While the team is still living their moments of celebration, they say, next year, they’re coming in with their eye on the prize, again. “We’re not going to have our bellies full. We’re going to be hungry to go out there and win again,” adds Calliari.
