A day of music and games is bringing kids and families together who are going through some tough times.

The Patched Together event took place Saturday night at The Bavarian in Altoona. It’s the 8th annual event: a fundraiser featuring local bands.

It raises money for the Home Nursing Agency’s Healing Patch, a free, peer bereavement group for children and families.

Healing patch officials say death is a tough subject, so it’s important to continue supporting local children who need help grieving.

“A feeling of hope. A feeling that knowing that you’re not alone,” said Kent Tonkin, the chair of Patched Together. “If you’ve lost, or other people who have lost, there’s somebody there who is willing to be a hand to hold or a hug to give.”

Since last year, they’ve raised more than $100,000.
