An annual conference in Cambria County focused on safety issues in the workplace.
Johnstown Area Regional Industries hosted its 15th Annual Alleghenies Regional Safety Conference in Johnstown on Tuesday.
Employees and speakers discussed safety issues like equipment, first aid, and overall health.
A panel made up of the Johnstown police chief, a judge, an attorney and a doctor also discussed safety issues surrounding the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Act.
Panel members said medical marijuana has benefits because it can alleviate pain for people suffering from serious diseases or terminal cancer. However, they said the specific regulations in the act are vague, which could lead to problems.
“I’m not sure where I stand on this. Most of the legitimate medical conditions as defined by the statute are probably people that shouldn’t be working in the first place,” said Dr. Patrick Gray, M.D.
Panelists also discussed the legal repercussions for employers if someone using medical marijuana injures themselves or others on the job.
