More than 100 people from coroners’ offices across the state gathered in our region on Friday for special training.

They attended a law enforcement seminar in Johnstown, focusing on sudden infant death syndrome, and other types of deaths involving children and infants. Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees says these  cases are  some of the most difficult to process. That’s why it’s important for investigators keep their education and training up-to-date.

“It’s crucial on how we do our business, how we do our work at the scenes. It can have a long term impact on the case itself, from the start, right down to the prosecution,” Lees explains.

Lees says this is the 17th year the Cambria County Coroner’s Office has held one of these educational seminars. Every year the coroners focus on different topics.
