Hundreds showed up for the Out of the Darkness walk in Altoona Sunday afternoon.
People were raising funds and awareness for suicide prevention.
The event aims to bring people together and give hope to those who lost someone to or attempted suicide.
We talked to the organizer of the walk and for her it’s personal.
She lost her step-son, Daniel, at only 17. She says conversation is key.
“We just need to start talking about it,” Billie Kochara said. “It’s time to stop pushing it under the carpet and pretending it’s such a bad word.”
There were around 300 walkers.
About $13,000 was raised and that number continues to grow.
