Pa., (WTAJ) — It’s that time of year again, time to get out on the water and do some trout fishing.

“They’ll be over four million trout stocked in the waters of Pennsylvania for anglers this year,” Tim Shaeffer, Executive Director of Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission, said.

Reynoldsdale State Fish Hatchery stocks four varieties of trout, including the golden rainbow trout.

“We’re funded solely by fishing licenses and boat registrations, and so we do all of this work on behalf of the anglers of Pennsylvania with their support,” Shaeffer said.

Local bait and tackle shops are more than ready to kick off the season, including Creg Strock, owner of Aquatic Imitations.

“Opening day is kinda like the first breath of spring, that you can get outside and you’re not freezing to death or out there getting soaking wet…I hope,” Strock said.

If you want to know when your local streams will be stocked with a certain variety of trout, the State Fish and Boat Commission has a schedule on their website and mobile app.
