One person is dead after a hit-and-run in Blacklick Township, Cambria County. Police are still searching for the driver of a white SUV, believed to be involved.

State police said the hit-and-run happened around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 4 near the intersection of Cardiff Road and Allie Buck Road.

Investigators said a driver spotted the victim, 22-year-old Jacob Hale, lying on Cardiff Road in Blacklick Township. He pulled over to check on Hale when another driver came down the road.

“Unfortunately, that oncoming driver did not stop and struck the person who was laying in the roadway,” said State Police Trooper Clifford Greenfield.

Surveillance video from a nearby fire department shows a white SUV, which police believe is the car that hit and killed Hale. They say it’s possible the driver didn’t know he or she hit someone.

“The driver of the white SUV flashed their headlights possibly in an attempt to warn this third driver of a hazard ahead. So we believe that it is likely the driver of the SUV may not have realized they struck someone in the roadway,” said Trooper Greenfield.

The crash happened right in front of Jack Keilman’s home. He said he woke up to flashing lights.

“All you could see was a body laying out on the road,” said Jack Keilman, a Blacklick Twp. resident.

Keilman said there have been other accidents in that same spot. He said people walk along Cardiff Road to exercise and speeding is a problem in the area.

“A couple years ago a car come up the road in my yard, crossed the road, rolled over and pinned a man under the car and killed him,” Keilman said.

Police are still investigating why Hale, a Mineral Point resident, was at the scene and why he was lying on the ground.

They’re reaching out to the public now to try to find those answers

“If you think you know who is involved or where that vehicle is, please contact us right away,” said Trooper Greenfield.

State police said it’s too early to say what charges the driver could face. First, they need to speak with the person behind the wheel.
