A 31-year-old from New York is behind bars in Centre County after getting caught in the act of identity theft.

Police say Craig Herdman admitted he gave a stolen identity to a delivery driver, after he was paid to pick up packages of iPhones.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security believes he is part of a $200,000 identity theft-ring, creating fraudulent accounts through Sprint.

Numerous Centre County residents were targeted.

IPhones are dropped off at the victims’ homes. People like Herdman pick them up without the victim’s knowledge.

Herdman’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 6.
