Neighbors at Cherry Lane Estates in Somerset Borough, Somerset County were disappointed and surprised, but not shocked, to hear that another mobile home was intentionally set on fire early Friday morning. Kimberly Metheny was no exception.

“I can’t believe they’re starting back up,” Metheny said. “We’ve gone so long in peace. There was nothing for such a long time. Everybody started getting comfortable again. I think that’s what it was.”

Firefighters were called to an unoccupied mobile home located at 160 Donald Lane around 3:30 a.m. on Friday. Investigators said it’s the ninth mobile home intentionally set on fire in the past three months.

In a statement to WTAJ, Somerset Borough Police Chief Randy Cox said the arson investigations are “the number one priority, as far as open cases. Sometimes, investigations move quickly. Other times, things are slow-going, but we persevere.”

Metheny said she’s not only worried she might lose her home to arson. According to Hurley Auctions employees and an online listing, the Cherry Lane Estates property will go up for auction on July 25.

“We’re wondering if it’s a blessing or a curse,” Metheny said. “A lot of neighbors are moving out right now because we don’t know the future. So, everyone is really worried that they’re going to lose their homes.”

With no idea what will happen with the arsonist, the park or her home, Metheny said all she can do is focus on her family.

WTAJ reporter: “If you have to move? What happens then?”

“Then my family will be homeless once again,” Metheny said. “It’s happened before. I’ll figure it out. I always do.”
