Physical fitness at one area school may get a boost this spring. Elementary school students in the Claysburg Kimmel School District are getting a major new piece of playground equipment.
The school has a nice playground, but it’s missing one of its major attractions. A large, 26-year-old wooden piece structure had to be removed, after it started to splinter and become dilapidated.
But, Elementary School Principal Matt Hall says the district and the community believe it’s an integral part of the playground and needs to be replaced.
“Anymore, schools ask a lot of our students, so when they have time to play a little bit and reduce that stress, new playground equipment will definitely take care of that, ” Hall said.
The district and the PTO have committed funds for a replacement and area businesses are being asked to donate. Students and the community can help out by taking part in a book bingo/basket raffle event, next Thursday, March 22, starting at 5:30 pm.
The principal expects the new equipment to be in place early next month. He says it’ll be even better, with slides for the younger kids, and climbing areas for the older ones…at the kids’ request.
