The Pennsylvania Insurance Department is warning residents about a new phone scam.
The department has received numerous complaints that someone is calling residents claiming to be a department employee and attempting to get their insurance information.
The caller asks about your Medicare supplemental coverage and other insurance plans, and then offers to visit your home.
If you receive a call like this, you are asked to hang up and contact police or the Insurance Department’s consumer hotline at 1-877-881-6388.
Victims should also contact the Pennsylvania Attorney General at 1-800-441-2555.
Insurance Commissioner Jessica Altman is also reminding residents that yhe Insurance Department never makes unsolicited calls to consumers.
