The feel good moments at the All-American Rathskeller in State College recently came to an end.
“This is really a tragedy for the history of the area,” Jacob Foose, PSU senior, said.
The iconic restaurant had to close its doors. So as people now drive and walk by the exterior, there’s more of a desolate feeling.
“You can feel the whole town in mourning about it,” Foose told us.
However, new owners Kelly and Tom Trosko are hoping to keep tradition alive.
“With all the change going on in town we want this to remain as an anchor in the community,” Tom explained.
As a Penn State alum and former “Skeller” employee, Tom knows what the establishment means to the community. That’s why he and his wife don’t want to change much.
“We want to keep the space the same,” he said. “We want to keep the feeling the same. We want to provide great service. We want to provide a great environment, great music, and a place that people can create memories.”
The goal is to have the space open as soon as possible. The Trosko’s are aiming for Spring.
While it won’t be completely the same, people are excited to see what it brings.
“You can never really have the exact same experiences,” Foose said. “Even if you look at the tables with everyone’s names carved into them, if they get rid of those that’s decades of history out the window.”
The new owners want to keep the same decor, but they won’t know what the old owners left them until their lease starts on March 1, 2018.
As far as the name, that’s still being decided.
