As mothers celebrate all across the country, it’s extra special day for the moms inside the Penn Highlands Dubois Maternity Unit.
Emily Perkins says her baby boy is a blessing, “I didn’t know I could love someone so much and he’s just been the most wonderful gift ever.” Perkins and Latisha Hoehn don’t know each other, however, they both share a special bond of becoming first-time moms this Mother’s day. It was a surprise for Hoehn to welcome her 5 lb 13 oz baby girl, “I wasn’t going to say I was celebrating mothers day. I mean was a mom but I didn’t think I was going to be the mom yet.” Baby Eva had her own timeline, making an appearance on Saturday.
Hoehn says it’s worth the hard work, “It’s definitely true when that baby gets in your hand. I forgot everything the whole 72 hours was like gone.”
On the other hand for Perkins, It took days of labor to bring baby Paul into the world on Friday. However, that’s not stopping mom from building a family. “I can’t wait to do it again actually. I can’t wait to have siblings for him. he’s been such a blessing and such a good baby,” adds the DuBois native.
Both moms had a group of loved ones by their side. The delivery was a special moment for Hoehn, as her mom was in the room as she became a grandma. “Now I know what she feels,” laughs the Clearfield mom.
Meanwhile, Perkin’s mother-in-law drove all the way from Virginia to meet her new grandbaby. Perkins says it’s overwhelming, “It’s just the best feeling ever to have so much love for him ”
It’s not always an easy road to becoming a mother. Hoehn says she experienced her own hardships, “[this is] my second pregnancy but my first child. So she’s a blessing for sure.”
However, they say it’s worth every moment of pain for the love they now feel with their child in their arms.
